Skype 5.10.0.116 for Windows: Fixes for IM and File Sending issues

Skype has released hotfix for multiple Skype clients to address a couple of known issues.This hotfix addresses an issue that occurs only when a user's Skype client crashes during a Skype IM session, which may in some cases result in the last IM entered or sent prior to the crash being delivered to a different IM contact after the Skype client is rebooted or logged in as a new user.

In addition, This release fixes File Sending on the desktop versions of Skype where it was not possible to save files for users who have a hard disk drive in FAT32 format.

The affected Skype clients are:
  • Skype 5.10 for Windows
  • Skype 5.8 for Mac
  • Skype 4.0 for Linux
  • Skype 1.2 for Windows Phone

The non-affected Skype clients are:
  • Skype 5.9 for Windows
  • Skype 2.8 for Android
  • Skype 4.0 for IOS

Skype 5.10 for Windows includes the following improvements:
  • Select and pin your favorite contacts.
  • Facebook and Skype contacts combined into one Contacts list.
  • Easier to understand premium subscription notices.
  • Possibility to control Skype video rendering technology for backward compatibility for people who have trouble with video calls.

Skype 5.10.0.116 for Windows contains new features, updates, and bug fixes include:

IM:
  • Skype client crashes during a Skype IM session, which may in some cases result in the last IM entered or sent prior to the crash being delivered to a different IM contact after the Skype client is rebooted or logged in as a new user.
File Sending:
  • It was not possible to save files sent on Hard Disk Drive formatted to FAT32 format.

System requirements
  • PC running Windows 2000, XP, Vista or 7, both 32- and 64-bit operating systems. (Windows 2000 users require DirectX 9.0 for video calls).
  • Internet connection - broadband is best (GPRS is not supported for voice calls).
  • Speakers and microphone - built-in or separate.
  • For voice and video calls we recommend a computer with at least a 1GHz processor, 256 MB RAM and of course a webcam.
  • For High Definition (HD) video calls both you and the person you're talking to need Skype 4.2 for Windows or higher, plus HD webcams. You'll also need a high-speed broadband connection (Recommend sustained 1 Mbps symmetrical bandwidth or higher) and a PC with at least a 1.8 GHz processor.
