TightVNC 2.7.3 Now Available for Download

TightVNC 2.7.3 contains several bug fixes for Server and Java Viewer and improves compatibly with Mac and Windows systems. This release also includes performance improvement.

Overview
TightVNC is a free remote control software package. With TightVNC, you can see the desktop of a remote machine and control it with your local mouse and keyboard, just like you would do it sitting in the front of that computer.

TightVNC 2.7 introduces a number of new features and improvements including:

Single Application Sharing Mode
Now there is no need to share the whole desktop if you need to remotely control only one application. For that, run a server via the command line, specify -shareapp CLI option and pass a process ID as its argument. In the Viewer window, only the application window will be shown (if any, non-used space in the Viewer viewport is filled with black).

Performance Optimization for Windows 8
Now servers run on Windows 8 are ultra fast and there are no desktop update lags when the Viewer connects to it. This was made possible due to added support for the Desktop Duplication API.

Password Protection for Server-Side Changes
Now remote server can be additionally secured with a new Administration -> Ask password for each operation option. If checked, the password will be asked each time server settings are changed, making it impossible to reconfigure the server during the session whitout appropriate rights for that.

ZRLE and RRE Encoding Support
The list of supported encoding types is extended with ZRLE and RRE compression. Now TightVNC Server is fully compliant to the latest RFB protocol specification.

Main features
TightVNC is:
  • Free for both personal and commercial usage, with full source code available.
  • Useful in administration, tech support, education, and for many other purposes.
  • Cross-platform, available for Windows and Unix, with Java client included.
  • Compatible with standard VNC software, conforming to RFB protocol specifications.

Key benefits

  • Cut your expenses and save your time on traveling.
  • Help your friends and family to solve problems with their computers remotely.
